Education Through Theatre Program
TCCT’s Education Through Theatre Program mounts educational productions to perform in schools in the Grand Traverse area, including Traverse City, Suttons Bay, Kingsley, Elk Rapids and Buckley. The traveling productions work to enhance lessons in many core subjects. All productions come with an information packet (sent in advance of the show) with background information and exercises to help prepare your instructors and students for the topics covered in our plays. Post performance question and answer periods allow your students the chance to ask questions about the relevant topics covered in the performances. Fees are on a sliding scale from $100 to $300. For 2008, TCCT is proud to present the following plays:

The Doctor in Spite of Himself (Touring in April) Moliere's classic comedy farce has Martha exacting revenge on her husband, Sganarelle, for treating her poorly. For revenge she tells strangers that he is a great doctor who hates to make house calls and that he must be beaten into admitting his identity. The strangers beat him until he agrees to treat a rich man's daughter who has lost her voice. Sganarelle soon finds himself becoming a famous doctor overnight much to the chagrin and delight of all involved. This play is best suited Junior High and High School students. The Bully Show

(Touring in May) The Bully Show! opens with the audience arriving at the live taping of the pilot episode of a new game show. Johnny the game show host, however, has made some last minute changes to the show and the game show is now called "You Wanna Be a Bully." Audience members are chosen to become contestants, and have to identify who could be a bully. Eventually the host pushes too far and the whole game show grinds to a halt. The Bully Show! hopes to challenge upper elementary and middle school students to reconsider some of their assumptions about bullies and victims and to stimulate further discussions on this issue. It can be used as a great tool to uniquely augment the bullying programs already being led by school counselors and teachers. This play is best suited for ages 8 and up. Download the curriculum.
The Odyssey The Odyssey (touring in November)
A mythical adventure for all time and all ages with gods, goddesses, monsters, storms, shipwrecks—obstacles at every turn. The goddess, Athena, tells the story of brave King Odysseus who began his journey home to Athens and his wife Penelope after 10 years of war in Troy. En route he and his men visit strange lands inhabited by the goddess Calypso, the sorceress Circe, the one-eyed giant Polyphemus, and others who do their best to detain him. It takes the ever-resourceful hero nearly 10 years to get back, and when he finally arrives, there is yet one more obstacle to overcome! This play is best suited for ages 8 and up. The curriculum will be available by October 15.
